Delays, defects and a lot of turbulence. First conceived when the Berlin Wall came down in 1989, Brandenburg Airport was intended as a symbol of a newly unified Germany. Instead it become synonymous with bureaucratisation and mismanagement.The airport took 14 years to construct and its final price tag soared from $2BN to over $7BN. Though it's now open and going from strength-to-strength, the saga of its delivery holds lessons for construction teams around the world.
Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, Gelephu International will feature a modular diagrid structure made of locally sourced timber, decorated with traditional Bhutanese painted carvings.
