THE WORLD is about to get a new second tallest building.

The Burj Azizi is currently under construction in Dubai and will stand a staggering 725-metres above the city when it completes. That height will put it into the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat’s “megatall” category and see it overtake the world’s current second tallest building: Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur.

Dubai’s 828-metre Burj Khalifa will remain the world’s tallest building, though its hold on the title may be under threat amidst rumours of Saudi Arabia restarting work on its 1,000-metre Jeddah Tower.

Led by Azizi Developments, the 131-storey Burj Azizi will mostly contain luxury apartments and is costing a reported $1.6BN to construct.

The skyscraper is due to complete in 2028.
