Building 3 World Trade Center

NEW footage documenting the construction of 3 World Trade Center (WTC) was released by EarthCam on September 11. 

The 80-storey office stands on the eastern edge of the site, but takes its name from the Marriott World Trade Center (whose official address was 3 World Trade Center), a hotel formerly located on the south-western corner of the WTC site that was destroyed when the Twin Towers collapsed.

Rising to a height of 1,079 feet (329 metres), the building is currently the second-tallest structure on the WTC site.

The building has 44 passenger lifts and three outdoor terraces, on the 17th, 60th and 76th floors respectively. The ground floor also provides direct access to New York's subway network and suburban PATH trains.

Designed by British architectural practice Rogers Stirk Harbour and Partners, the building contains 2.5 million square feet (232,000 square metres) of office space above a five storey retail podium.

The building's facade is made up of over 10,000 floor-to-ceiling glass panels and features external steel trusses, which allowed the architects to design column-free corner offices.

Reconstruction of Lower Manhattan's World Trade Centre site started as early as 2002 with the re-building of 7 WTC, which completed in 2008.

The 1,776 foot tall One World Trade Center (formerly known as the "Freedom Tower"), completed in 2014, and is currently the tallest building in the Western hemisphere.

Two further skyscrapers on the site, 2 WTC and 5 WTC are yet to be built. The Ronald O. Perelman Performing Arts Centre - set to be located between One World Trade Center and 2 WTC - is currently under construction and due to open to the public in 2020.
