Work has started on Canada’s tallest building: the supertall SkyTower
CANADA'S tallest building is now officially under construction.
The 312.5 metre supertall SkyTower will form part of a major new development called Pinnacle One Yonge.
SkyTower will hold more than 800 condominium suites over 95 storeys, while the entire three-tower complex will have more than 2,200 suites.
Amenities will include an outdoor pool, yoga studio, games centre and party space, as well as outdoor areas for barbecues.
140,000 square metres of office space, 15,000 square metres of retail, a 250-room hotel will all be included within the development in what architect David Pontarini has called a deliberate and careful scheme to densify Toronto’s urban streetscape.

The tower is just one of many new developments to grace the Canadian city’s skyline.
Toronto is in the middle of a skyscraper boom. 31 new towers are currently under construction, and 59 are proposed - if even half of the proposed skyscrapers are approved and built the city will nearly double its current skyscraper count of 67.

The extent of development will see Toronto overtake Chicago and become second only to New York as North America’s skyscraper capital.
Other major skyscrapers include the under construction 308 metre The One and the proposed Frank Gehry-designed 329-metre-high West Tower for the Mirvish+Gehry Complex.
